CPR & AED training for New Jersey schools, daycares and camps.

Onsite certification for the coaches, nurses and staff your Janet's Law emergency plan depends on, plus child and infant CPR and first aid for early-childhood programs.

What Janet's Law asks of schools

New Jersey's Janet's Law covers public and nonpublic schools serving grades K–12. According to the NJ Department of Education, each school must:

  • Have at least one AED in an unlocked, clearly marked location, accessible during the school day and at school-sponsored athletic events and practices
  • Have a team coach, licensed athletic trainer or other designated staff member trained in CPR and AED use present at athletic events and practices
  • Maintain an emergency action plan for sudden cardiac events that lists at least five employees, coaches or licensed athletic trainers with current CPR and AED certification

Read the details in the NJ Department of Education's Janet's Law FAQ.

Keeping the list current

The plan is only as good as the certifications on it. Cards expire every two years and coaches change between seasons, so a list that was complete last year can have gaps today. We train your designated staff onsite — after school, before the season starts or on an in-service day — and remind you before the group comes due again.

What we teach for schools

Practice with your own AED

We run the scenarios around your school's actual AED location and response plan, so staff know exactly where to go, what to grab and who calls 911.

Daycares, preschools and camps

Early-childhood programs and camps usually need staff with current child and infant CPR and first aid for licensing and insurance. Requirements differ by program type, so send us yours and we'll match the course and card.

FAQ

School questions.

How many staff need CPR and AED certification under Janet's Law?

The emergency action plan must list at least five school employees, team coaches or licensed athletic trainers with current CPR and AED certification. NJ Department of Education guidance doesn't settle whether that's per school or district-wide, so check with your district. Training more than five per building covers absences and turnover.

Which course should coaches and staff take?

Heartsaver CPR & AED gives coaches, teachers and office staff current CPR and AED certification. School nurses and athletic trainers usually hold BLS Provider.

Can you train our staff before the athletic season starts?

Yes. Pre-season, after-school and in-service days all work well for training coaches and staff together at your school.
